The deepest urge of the self is to be laid bare completely, not hiding anything. The only person before whom the self can do this without threat of loss, only gain, is God Himself (I do capitalize the H). Prayer is the vehicle. Prayer is real authenticity. No other person, no matter how intimate, can ever be trusted fully with this.
