Selecting for Female Intelligence

On intellectual compatibility

Yesterday I made a post that generated a lot of interest and outrage simultaneously, as I tend to do best.

If you take a look at the replies, there’s a lot of men seething that I dared to challenge the meme that men prefer dumb girls over smart girls. They need to tell themselves there isn’t a single smart woman in the world or believe that intelligent women are inherently evil.

Allow me to elaborate on this post. First, selecting for intelligence is wise if you don’t want to breed midwit or stupid children. This should be obvious to anyone who understands basic genetics, and doesn’t require further explanation.

“But Med, I’m just trying to get laid. I’ll select for intelligence when I’m looking to have children. Until then, I prefer dumb girls because they’re easier to manipulate.”

Okay. Have you been to the DMV? Have you been through airport security? Those women are stupid. Now try convincing me again that selecting for low IQ is a good thing.

I should start by saying I’m speaking from experience here. I’ve dated girls with an IQ of 0.5-1 standard deviation lower than mine. They weren’t stupid. “Stupid” is harsh, the extremes of which are no joke and imply they’re literally cognitively challenged. But I wouldn’t describe them as brilliant. But more importantly, I wouldn’t describe them as curious. I didn’t need to mentally hold their hand anytime I wanted to explain a sophisticated concept, but I did need to dumb it down or not talk about it at all because I knew they weren’t going to get it. This is exhausting.

Personally, I like to be mentally simulated and speak as freely as possible, within reason. The best conversations are where two people just get each other and the conversation moves at its own momentum. This doesn’t mean you’re both agreeing on everything, but you’re at least able to agree on the fundamentals and discuss most topics in good faith. Without this intellectual compatibility, the relationship is doomed.
